Obesity, after diet and activity changes alone have not been enough.
For example type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, high BP, fatty liver, high cholesterol or sleep apnoea. Asian adults often face these risks at lower BMIs.
GLP-1 medicines lower blood sugar and weight together, and some protect the heart.
Pregnancy or planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, and some people with past pancreatitis.
These medicines are not for a few kilos before an event. They work best as part of long-term treatment.
Whether a GLP-1 medicine is right for you, and which one, is decided only after your history, examination and tests.
Weight usually comes back if the medicine is stopped without a plan. That is why we prepare for the long term from the first visit.
Weight history, medicines, BMI, waist, BP, and tests such as HbA1c, kidney and liver function, lipids and thyroid. We also look for causes of weight gain.
The dose goes up step by step over weeks to limit nausea. You'll learn how to inject or take the medicine and what to do on a bad day.
Enough protein at each meal and strength exercise 2–3 times a week, so the weight lost is mostly fat, not muscle.
Weight, waist, side effects, sugar and BP are reviewed, in clinic or online. The plan includes what happens when the medicine is reduced or stopped.
In large studies, people lost on average about 15% of body weight with semaglutide 2.4 mg and around 20% with the highest tirzepatide doses over roughly 16–18 months, together with diet and activity changes. Individual results vary.
Nausea, fullness, constipation, diarrhoea and reflux, mostly when starting or increasing the dose. Rarer problems include gallstones and pancreatitis, which is why follow-up matters. Severe stomach pain needs urgent care.
Often, yes, if the medicine is stopped suddenly with no lifestyle plan. Gradual dose reduction, protein, strength training and regular review help keep weight off.
No, and you shouldn't. They are prescription medicines, and fake or unregulated versions sold online can be dangerous. Use only medicines prescribed by your doctor and supplied by a licensed pharmacy.
Follow-up can be online. The first assessment is best in person at the Dwarka clinic, or online with recent test reports and accurate weight, waist and BP readings.
You will eat less because appetite falls. The focus is on eating well, not starving: enough protein, vegetables, fibre and fluids, so you feel well and keep muscle.
