High blood pressure doctor in Dwarka

High BP rarely causes symptoms, yet it damages the heart, brain and kidneys over years. We confirm your real BP, check for causes and damage, and keep it controlled with the fewest medicines that work.

120/80

Who this is for

Newly found high BP

A high reading at a check-up, pharmacy or home. We confirm it before starting lifelong medicine.

BP still high on medicines

Readings above target despite tablets. Dose, timing, combination and lifestyle are reviewed together.

Fluctuating readings

BP that swings through the day, is high only at the clinic (white-coat), or high only at home (masked).

BP with diabetes or kidney disease

Lower targets and kidney-protecting medicines matter more here.

Young adults with high BP

BP under 40 years of age needs a search for secondary causes such as kidney, hormone or sleep apnoea problems.

Side effects from BP tablets

Ankle swelling, cough, dizziness or tiredness. There is usually a better-suited medicine.

How Dr. Pankaj Kumar treats it

From readings to a controlled BP

The goal is not one good reading at the clinic. It is steady control at home, day after day.

1

Confirm the real BP

Correct cuff size and technique in the clinic, plus a 7-day home BP chart: two readings morning and evening. Home BP of 135/85 or more is high.

2

Check for causes and damage

Kidney function, urine protein, sodium and potassium, sugar, cholesterol, thyroid, and an ECG. More tests only when the pattern suggests a secondary cause.

3

Treat with a clear target

Most adults aim for below 130/80 if it is tolerated. Medicines are chosen for you, often low-dose combinations, along with salt, weight, activity, alcohol and sleep changes.

4

Follow up until stable

A review 2–4 weeks after a change, then every 3–6 months. Home readings can be shared on WhatsApp between visits.

Do not wait

Blood pressure emergencies

For any of these, go to the nearest emergency department or call 112. Don't wait for a clinic appointment.

  • BP of 180/120 or higher with chest pain or breathlessness
  • Sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, or difficulty speaking
  • Sudden severe headache, confusion or blurred vision
  • Severe BP rise in pregnancy, with headache, swelling or vision problems

Frequently asked questions

What blood pressure is considered high?

A clinic reading of 140/90 or more on repeated visits, or home readings averaging 135/85 or more, is high blood pressure. Readings between 120/80 and 139/89 are raised and are a good time to start lifestyle changes.

Once I start BP tablets, will I need them for life?

Many people do, because BP tends to rise with age. Some people who lose weight, cut salt and alcohol and become active can reduce or stop tablets, but only under supervision with regular home readings.

Which home BP machine should I buy?

A validated automatic upper-arm machine with the right cuff size for your arm. Wrist machines are less reliable. Bring it to the clinic once so we can check it against ours.

When is the best time to check blood pressure at home?

In the morning before medicines, food or tea, and in the evening before dinner. Sit quietly for 5 minutes first, back supported, feet flat, arm at heart level. Take two readings a minute apart.

Can high BP cause headaches?

Usually it causes no symptoms at all, which is why it is called a silent condition. A very high BP can cause headache, and that needs urgent attention.

Can my BP be managed online?

Yes, once you have been examined and your tests are done. Ongoing reviews of home readings and medicine changes work well as online consultations.
